Personal Playlist

Image
My favorite singer hands down would have to be Bob Marley. Bob Marley is a Jamaican singer and songwriter from the 1900's. Marley did not start his music career on his own but was actually part of a band that included his close friends. Funny enough the reggae band was called "The Wailers" because they "started off crying" prior to them receiving vocal lessons. My favorite song by Bob Marley would have to be his song "One Love". Which is funny because Bob Marley had his own documentary that came out early this year titled " One Love ". Another song I find really beautiful would have to be "love is my religion" which is actually not sung by Bob Marley, but instead by his son Ziggy Marley. Another singer I grew up listening to and still love very much would have to be Selena. Her voice is so beautiful and her story, though tragic, helped pave the way for so many female Mexican American Musicians. Selena started off in a family band w...

Music and Gender

Image
When I heard the topic of music and gender a few different stories came to mind some personal, others I've heard and some I just found interesting.  From my personal experiences, I grew up going to Waldorf schools. In a Waldorf school it's required for you to take choir as well as play an instrument. I played the violin in the orchestra and something that I noticed was that most of the guys would play the bigger instruments such as base and cello, whereas the girls primarily played the smaller instruments such as violin and viola. I noticed in viewing other orchestras that these gender roles were very common, as demonstrated in the video I attached below.  My mother has always been very into music, and she would tell me stories about her in her younger years and how she was really into rock n roll. I remember her telling me that she found it odd that not a lot of girls listened to rock, and some guys would even tease her for it claiming rock n rolls was for boys and girls shou...

Kianas Musical World

Music I am currently listening to.  Hello, I am Kiana. Music has always been a very big part of my life it is a rare occasion to find me without my headphones on. My music choices change very frequently, and I listen to a wide veriety of music, but recently I've been listening to lots of Sabrina Carpenter (she recently put out her new album called "Short and Sweet") and Chappel Roan. Though Selena and Bob Marly will always be my favorites.  I've also (more recently) have been introducing myself to some of Beck G songs Music that is meaningful to me. While there are many songs I would consider myself to be sentimentally attached to, I would have to say that Home by Edith Whiskers takes the cake. This song is meaningful to me in more ways then one. I can confidently say this is my favorite song of all time, just by listening to it it transport's me back in time to many good memories of mine.  Music that I do not connect with. I love music very much, but like a lot...
